First, what kind of bill do you mean?
“Bill” is a broader word than “invoice”, and being precise about which one you need saves you time.
| What people mean | The right document | Can you make it here? |
|---|---|---|
| Billing a customer for goods or services you supplied | An invoice | Yes — this is exactly what the tool creates |
| An itemised bill handed to a customer at the point of sale | An invoice or a receipt, depending on whether they have paid | Yes, though a till system may suit a high-volume shop better |
| A bill for a customer who has already paid | A receipt | Use the receipt maker guide |
| A regular charge for an ongoing service | A recurring invoice or a statement | Yes, one invoice at a time |
| A utility, phone, electricity or council tax bill | Issued by that supplier’s billing system | No. Those are official documents from the provider, and only the provider can issue a valid one |
This tool is for billing your own customers for your own work. It is not for reproducing another organisation’s bills or receipts. Creating a document that appears to come from a company you are not is fraud in most countries, whatever it is used for.

How to generate a bill online
Add who is billing
Your business name, address and contact details, plus a tax registration number if you have one.
Add who is being billed
The customer’s name and address under Bill To. For a company, use the registered name so their accounts team can match it.
Number it and date it
A unique reference and the date of issue, plus the date you expect to be paid by.
List the charges
One line per item or service with a quantity and a unit price. The amount for each line is worked out for you.
Add tax or a discount
Apply one rate across the bill or a different rate per line, and rename the label to GST, VAT or Sales Tax as appropriate.
Download or print
Save an A4 PDF named after the document number, or print the bill on its own.

What belongs on a bill
The same fields an invoice needs, because for commercial billing they are the same document. The essentials are your details, the customer’s details, a unique number, the date, an itemised list of charges with quantities and unit prices, tax shown separately, the total due, and how and by when to pay. The full checklist covers each field and the reason it is there.

FAQ
Bill generator questions
Is a bill the same as an invoice?
Usually, but not always. When a business bills another business for goods or services, “bill” and “invoice” describe the same document. The word “bill” is also used for things an invoice generator cannot produce — a utility bill, a phone bill, a council tax bill — which are issued by the supplier’s own billing system and often have legal formats of their own.
Can I generate a bill online for free?
Yes. If what you need is a document that lists items, quantities, prices and a total for a customer to pay, the free tool on the homepage creates it and downloads it as a PDF at no cost.
Can I make a bill with GST or VAT on it?
Yes. Choose a tax mode in Invoice settings, rename the label to GST, VAT or Sales Tax, and add your registration number in the From block. See the tax invoice guide for what those documents must contain.
Can I use this for a restaurant or shop bill?
You can produce an itemised bill for a customer with it, and many small operations do. It is not a point-of-sale system, so it will not open a cash drawer, print to a thermal roll or file sales returns for you. For a customer who has already paid, a receipt is usually the more appropriate document.
Do I need to sign up to create a bill?
No. There is no account and no login, and the details you type stay in your browser.
